Board Nominee Questionnaire
VP - New Products
Please explain why you consider yourself an excellent candidate for the Board of Directors of the Fiber Broadband Association:
The experience gained as a result of being part of the team that developed a business plan that when executed, created a model for other utilities, municipals and service providers, has afforded me a unique opportunity to participate in all stages of development and launch. It’s also allowed me to understand the demands of managing a mature deployment. Equally important, it’s created an opportunity to develop products that capitalize on the unique strengths of an all fiber network that consistently provides opportunities for competitive differentiation. Most recently, we have begun partnering with other communities to help reduce their capital costs as well as their ongoing operational costs to enter the broadband business. It's exciting to assist others to build and operate fiber networks and witness the economic and societal benefits for their areas. Collectively, these experiences enable me to represent the unique interests of members who are network operators and service providers in varying stages of their deployment. Whether a member is in the planning or launch phase or is operating as a mature business, it’s important that we all stay informed of new technologies and learn from others’ best practices if we want to keep our communities competitive in the global economy.

Please provide a short overview of your experience with telecommunications, fiber optics, and FTTH technologies:
I was initially hired by EPB in 2004 to be member of the Business Planning team to research and develop a business plan to build a 100% Fiber Optic network to serve as the foundation of the most automated Smart Grid in the country as well as enabling second generation broadband products and services. After EPB successfully secured authorization to enter the business and secured financing to build, I became VP of Fiber Optics with the responsibility of overseeing the bid creation and the resulting vendor selection of an end-to-end network solution provider. After launch, I transitioned to Vice President of New Products and in that role today, develop and manage communications products as well as work with other communities building high speed fiber optic networks.
Please describe the goals you would like to accomplish during your term as Fiber Broadband Association Board Member.
Prior to joining EPB, I worked at AT&T for 30 years in varying roles with marketing, sales and business development. My last assignment in 2004 was as Regional Operations Manager responsible for providing industry guidance and recommendations based on sales results and overall financial performance for a seven state region. Fortunately, all my assignments at AT&T and EPB have allowed me to remain connected to customers and given me the chance to understand their needs. It’s allowed me a great opportunity to use technology to create and offer simple and uncomplicated tools for our customers' personal lives and their businesses.
My goal is to bridge communications between varying interests within the membership from a perspective based on personal experience. I feel I will be able to represent the unique interests of members who are network operators and service providers in varying stages of their deployment. I understand the importance of developing a strategic view of technology for the future and will work to understand industry and market trends so we can continue to create and support the emerging applications that will keep us competitive around the world.
Have you reviewed the Board of Directors’ Responsibilities document, and do you understand what is required?
Please describe the level of commitment (in terms of time and effort) that you intend to make to the Association during the three-year term:
I am prepared to attend all association meetings and conference calls as well as continue to serve on working committees. Building fiber infrastructure is critical for continued economic development in our communities and in the country. I am prepared to devote my time and efforts to promote and encourage ongoing development and adoption of the technology.
Please inform us of any other information, issue, or concern of which the Association should be aware.
