Description: Localities who plan to build fiber broadband networks frequently start by connecting key government buildings and anchor institutions, including public safety. This strategy allows them to reduce internal internet and telecom costs and simultaneously to stimulate private broadband investment by leasing excess fiber strands to ISPs. This approach is a low risk, tested strategy for public broadband investment and can serve as a basis for building public-private partnerships to expand broadband to homes and businesses over time. This webinar will discuss this approach in detail, and will present data and case studies based on the experience of the many communities—in rural, urban, and suburban areas--who have successfully used this strategy over the last 20 years.
