FCC Makes It Easier, Quicker for Incumbents to Discontinue Outdated Voice and Data Services

The Federal Communications Commission voted last week to ease requirements on incumbent telcos discontinuance of legacy voice and data services, thereby lowering their operating costs and facilitating the introduction of innovative IP and higher-bandwidth services which are optimized over all-fiber networks. The order dramatically shortens notification and comment periods and reduces the education and outreach requirements for customers being transitioned to next generation services.
